About

Low Carb Air Fryer Indian-Style Drumsticks are full of bright Indian spices and flavors. The Air Fryer is the perfect way to prepare the drumsticks as it allows for a deliciously browned crisped chicken skin. The marinate on the outside of the chicken also helps it to achieve a delicious Tandori-like appearance. The chicken is marinated in full-fat Greek yogurt, plenty of sea salt, garam masala, ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, curry powder, fresh garlic, and plenty of freshly squeezed lemon juice. The drumsticks are placed directly into the Air Fryer and cooked until beautifully charred and flavorful. You'll love this flavorful Low Carb Air Fryer recipe for weeknight meals.

Can I marinate the drumsticks?

Yes! We did not marinate the drumsticks in this recipe for ease. However, the meat itself will become more flavorful and tender if marinated overnight. So feel free to prep the drumsticks and marinate a day ahead and let them sit overnight in the fridge.

Can I make this recipe if I am dairy-free?

Yes, substitute the full-fat Greek yogurt for unsweetened coconut milk yogurt.

How can I make this dish spicier?

Feel free to use a spicy curry powder or add cayenne pepper to the spice blend to taste.

Can I serve these with chutney?

Yes, feel free to serve these drumsticks with any Low Carb or Keto-friendly chutney like a cilantro-mint chutney.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lb chicken dark meat drumstick only enhanced raw
  • ½ cup 5% authentic greek strained yogurt
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt, sea salt
  • 2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin, ground
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric, ground
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine the ingredients to make the yogurt marinade for the drumsticks. Combine the full-fat yogurt, garam masala, cumin, coriander, turmeric, curry powder, grated garlic clove, and lemon juice.
  2. Toss the drumsticks in the yogurt mixture until they are fully coated. Decide if you want to marinate the drumsticks. If so, allow them to sit overnight in the fridge.
  3. Place the drumsticks in a single layer, not touching in the air fryer basket with the rack inside.
  4. Cook the drumsticks at 400 F for 30 minutes. Be sure to flip the drumsticks halfway through. Place a temperature probe inside the middle of the biggest drumstick. The temperature should be at least 165 F. If not, add a couple more minutes as necessary.
