  • ½ cup passata tomato cooking sauce by remano
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 small red onions
  • ½ cup, sliced red pepper
  • ½ pepper, large (3-3/4 in. long, 3 in. dia) yellow bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon basil fresh
  • 3 ½ ounce mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 390 degrees Fahrenheit and line a shallow oven tray with baking paper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add the peppers and onions and fry gently until tender and caramelised – around 15/20 minutes.
  3. While the peppers are cooking, add the ground beef, garlic powder, egg and parmesan to a large mixing bowl. Season well.
  4. Combine the mixture thoroughly with your hands and transfer to the lined tray. Press into a large circle about 1cm thick to form the base.
  5. Transfer to the oven to bake for 15 minutes, remove and drain off any excess liquid.
  6. While the base is cooking you can make the sauce. Add the passata, balsamic, oregano and dried basil to a medium saucepan.
  7. Bring to the boil gently and reduce to a simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently until thickened.
  8. Spoon the sauce evenly over the meatza base and top with torn mozzarella chunks.
  9. Arrange the pepper and onion pieces over the top of the mozzarella.
  10. Return to the oven for a further 12-15 minutes until the meat is piping hot and cooked through and the cheese is melted. Scatter with fresh basil to serve.
