This Keto cabbage recipe makes a flavorful side to accompany your favorite low carb mains. Our quick and easy Keto side is prepared with tender Savoy cabbage, a hearty helping of butter, smoked paprika, lemon juice, aromatic garlic and chicken stock. This is a great way to add fats and flavor to this humble low carb vegetable.

Can I Make This Vegan?

We have added butter to our braised cabbage for fats and flavor, as well as chicken stock for simmering. This can easily be adapted for vegan or vegetarian cooking. You can replace the butter with coconut oil or a Keto-friendly plant-based spread. You can also swap the chicken stock for vegetable stock. Please be sure to adjust your macros to account for any changes made to the original recipe.

Serving Suggestions

This delicious smoky cabbage makes a quick and easy low carb side. The braised cabbage would be perfect served with roasted chicken, pork chops or sausages. Any leftovers can also be added to cauliflower mash to make a tasty Keto bubble and squeak!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoon butter, unsalted
  • 2 cup cabbage, savoy, raw or blanched, marinated in oil mixture
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon gourmet collection smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¼ cup chicken broth, bouillon or consomme, homemade
  • ½ teaspoon salt, sea salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the garlic. Melt the butter in a large saucepan or Dutch oven over a low/medium heat. Add the garlic and sweat gently for a few minutes until tender and fragrant.
  2. Thinly slice the cabbage. Add the cabbage to the pan with the melted butter and garlic. Add the paprika, lemon juice, salt, pepper and stock. Stir well.
  3. Bring the stock up to a gentle boil. Reduce to a simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes uncovered or until the cabbage is tender and all liquid has evaporated. Serve hot with your preferred Keto mains.
