What Kind of Beans Should I Use?

We have used frozen green beans for convenience in our low carb side. This makes a great quick and easy option for using up frozen vegetables that you may already have to hand in the freezer. If preferred, you could use fresh green beans, adjusting cooking times, and macros as needed.

Serving Suggestions

These Keto green beans make a great spicy side dish, perfect to accompany your preferred low carb Asian inspired mains. The beans would be delicious with some sticky glazed pork ribs or spicy marinated chicken thighs. These also make a great side for vegan or vegetarian dishes, perfect with some stir fried tofu.

Ingredients

  • 3 cup green beans (string beans), cooked from frozen
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoon tamari sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple flavored syrup
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon, whole pieces sesame seeds
  • ½ teaspoon hot chili pepper, dried, without seeds
  • â…“ cup vegetable broth, bouillon or consomme

Instructions

  1. Melt a generous tablespoon of coconut oil in a large skillet over a medium heat. Add the frozen green beans. Stir fry the beans allowing them to thaw a little. Add the vegetable stock. Bring to a simmer and cook the beans for 8 minutes to heat through. All the stock should be evaporated.
  2. Thinly slice the garlic. Add the syrup, tamari sauce, sliced garlic, and sesame oil to the skillet. Stir well to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes more in the flavorings until the beans start to brown and caramelize in places.
  3. Add the sesame seeds and chili flakes to the skillet. Stir well to coat the beans. Pan fry for a minute more. The beans should be golden and tender. Serve hot.
