About

Use the freshest tuna steaks you can get your hands on for these ahi tuna bites. The fish is coated in sesame seeds and spices before fried golden brown in oil. Following this recipe, your ahi tuna bites should be cooked medium, but you may cook for longer for more well done fish. Served on the side is a ginger mayo dipping sauce for extra fat and flavor.

Ingredients

  • 8 ½ ounce ahi tuna
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • â…› teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoon, whole pieces sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon rice vinegar
  • â…› teaspoon ginger, ground

Instructions

  1. Cut raw tuna steaks into approx. 20, 1-inch cubes as evenly as possible. In a bowl, toss the tuna cubes with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and sesame seeds until all the seasonings coat the tuna.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Wait for the oil to be hot before placing the tuna cubes one by one in the oil. Cook the tuna cubes on one side for 2-3 minutes (until the sesame seeds are fried golden) before flipping the cubes over. Reduce the heat to a low to cook an additional 2-3 minutes.
  3. Set the ahi tuna cubes aside to cool. Whisk together the remaining ingredients to make the ginger mayo dipping sauce. You may wish to serve the sauce warm by microwaving it for just 10 seconds.
  4. Serve each tuna bite with a toothpick and approx. 1 TB of sauce per serving.
